As Seen On
Summer is in full swing here in the US and a lot of us are heading for the beach. I just got back from San Diego last week where “no shoes, no shirt, no problem” is pretty much the city motto. I have never seen so many half-naked bodies in my entire life.
And you know what? They were all DIFFERENT and special in their own way!!
I thought back to a time when I used to hate going on vacation because I would diet for three or four months leading up to it, only to find that there were hundreds of women who were still thinner than me, which made me feel like I wasn’t trying hard enough to get my body into the shape society dictated I should be.
This always led to me loathing my body shape, which led to insecurity every time I donned a bathing suit.
This led to me obsessing about my appearance for the entire vacation instead of enjoying my time away from work, not to mention the quality time I could’ve been enjoying with the family and friends who were with me.
Talk about a vacation ruiner!!
What’s the point of taking vacation if you spend the entire time feeling bad about yourself and consequently taking it out on your loved ones who you originally intended to enjoy quality time in a beautiful setting with?
Can you relate? I thought so.
That’s why I thought you should see these images for inspiration:
Now that I’ve done some inner work and can appreciate the unique shape and size of my body, I also appreciate all of the different shapes and sizes of other people’s bodies around me!
If you look at other bodies (and your own) as art, all of the scars, curves, lines and colors, you really start to appreciate how unique and special everyone truly is- inside as well as out.
You are unique and special. So quit trying to cram your body into some “one size fits all” box.
You see, no matter how much weight you lose or how many diets you go on- if you don’t accept and start loving the person you are on the inside and out, you will be and stay miserable. Your quality of life will forever be tarnished.
So why not start appreciating the unique shape and size that YOUR body comes in? You don’t need to look like the cookie cutter shape of the photoshopped models to feel great about the way you look.
It’s time to redefine what you consider beautiful and stop allowing others to define that for you.
So, stop reading this, go put on a gorgeous bathing suit and go concentrate on spending some quality time with yourself and your loved ones.
PS- I want to know, how have “bad body” thoughts ruined your vacations, and how are you planning to redefine your idea of beauty? Also, if you’re feeling brave, post a pic of your beautiful body in your gorgeous bathing suit!! Here’s mine:
